Hiking
at Stowers Ranch
Hiking
is a healthy and rewarding way to enjoy nature. It is a splendid
way to observe at close range grasses, flowers, trees, and
brushy plants. Careful and quiet walking may also permit
sightings of numerous species of birds, as well as other wildlife.
Stowers
Ranch has miles and miles of hiking trails. Some hikes are in
draws with running or intermittent streams and tall trees; some
are in open pasture; and some are along cliffs and ridge lines
that provide spectacular views.
If
you tell us approximately how far or how long you want to hike
and the type of terrain you prefer, we can provide simple trail
maps that meet your objective. If you are not going on a circle
hike, we will drop you off at the starting point and pick you
up at the end.

Our
country is rough and hilly, with lots of loose rocks and cactus
and other thorny plants. We suggest that you wear sturdy hiking
boots that come above the ankle. A broad brimmed hat and sunscreen
will protect you from the sun, and you should also bring insect
repellant. A light day pack is useful for carrying water, camera,
or binoculars. Many hikers like to use a walking stick for support
and stability when crossing steep or rough terrain.
The
cost of hiking at Stowers Ranch for one day or part of a day is
$50 per adult and $25 per child aged 6 to 16 years (children 5
and under are free). Reservations must be made in advance
and payment made in cash prior to starting the hike.
